Closing the Diversity Gap in Apprenticeships – The BAME Apprentice Network is a Community of Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic (BAME) Apprentices which aims to change the landscape of apprenticeships, empowering apprentices to develop personally and professionally, as well as championing change within the sector.
The BAME Apprentice Network not only acts as an aid for apprentices but also supports employers on their journey to making a meaningful difference to their Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion policy. BAME Apprentice Network is overseen by two very important committees, an executive committee and an apprentice committee that meet regularly to discuss issues and make decisions on delivering our objectives.
Our Objectives
Build a community of budding BAME Apprentices to network, share best practice, knowledge and experience.
Provide employers with tools, advice and guidance as to how to positively engage with the BAME community and ensure they are diverse, inclusive and equal.
Support apprentices with their professional and personal development during and after their apprenticeship programme.
Champion employers who are making a difference and ensure others follow in becoming more diverse, inclusive and equal.
Use the community to get a firm understanding of the challenges and barriers that apprentices from BAME backgrounds are facing to make positive change in the sector.
Increase BAME representation in Apprenticeships by spreading positive messages and creating BAME apprentice role models within communities.
Our Activities
Organise and run regular networking and professional development events for apprentices to meet each other and share best practice.
Offer training to apprentices to become Role Models, so they can deliver speeches about apprenticeships in schools and within the community.
Offer a mentoring programme, to support new apprentices and those looking to take up an apprenticeship with applications and development opportunities.
Provide a specialist Jobs Board for employers who wish to advertise their vacancies to a BAME audience.
Provide a range of services to employers to aid them in breaking barriers, becoming more inclusive and reaching out to a wider audience.
Carry out regular surveys and research throughout the year to compile reports that are used to influence policy.
